CLIENT OVERVIEW

Our client is a large Academic medical center providing primary and specialty care. They are one of the largest recipients of funding from the National Institutes of Health among independent U.S. hospitals and currently overseeing 661 research projects, including both laboratory-based research and clinical research programs in areas such as substance use disorder, violence intervention, infectious disease, geriatrics, and hematology/oncology.

CHALLENGE

This organization’s research team developed a complex research study looking at the management of Alcohol Use Disorder. The study was designed to examine several factors that could impact patient care, including the role of a care manager, the role of a population health manager, and the role of targeted decision support tools. They were in need of an Epic consultant to help their scientific research team translate their decision-support ideas into tangible decision-support tools within Epic, as well as to develop the reports to be used by the care manager and population health manager.

APPROACH

Due to the complexity of the research study, and the significance of the decision support tools and reporting tools on the outcome of the study, it would have been very challenging for the team's ideas to be successfully built in Epic per their study specifications without a continuous, dedicated Epic resource on the team.

The organization decided to partner with Queen Consulting Group and leverage our Health IT expertise in selecting an Epic Ambulatory/Healthy Planet Consultant who participated in weekly meetings with the research team and helped the team understand how their ideas could be implemented in Epic.

IMPACT

Queen Consulting Group’s Epic-certified consultant coordinated with the team to obtain clarification on a particularly complicated HEDIS measure. The consultant was able to collaborate with NCQA/HEDIS, which allowed the client to ensure that the build in Epic was as accurate as possible to protect the fidelity of the study. These Epic tools and reports are created with the goal to improve therapies and treatment techniques, to ultimately better the lives of individuals who struggle with Alcohol Use Disorder. QCG is proud to play our part in transforming care and patient lives through technology.
